It's unlikely to work right out of the box. The 0404 is no longer supported and they no longer release new drivers for it. macOS Catalina requires new drivers. And also note the 0404 has always had quite buggy drivers even when it was new.
E Mu For Mac Drivers
There is a problem that emu 0204 and probably similar soundcards are not supported by manufacturer on recent mac operating systems. They just don't work. This is because SIP (system integrity protection) prevents of proper installation of old drivers. So you have to disable it ,install drivers, and then reenable it.I use emu 0204 on macos mojave
You can disable system integrity protection from kernel extensions only to install the drivers and they seem to work just fine. Other sources on the web tell you to disable the whole thing but you only really need to disable it for kext. So if you really need 0404 and choose to use a bit less secure system this is how:
Despite the almost identical names, the 0404 USB 2.0 interface under review here is a different beast from the original 0404 (the numbers merely specify the numbers of inputs and outputs). For a start, it's the first Emu audio interface to employ a USB 2.0 connection, the first of the range to abandon DSP effects, and also the first to offer cross-platform Mac OS X as well as Windows XP and x64 drivers. I was supplied with Windows XP software (which requires Service Pack 2 to be installed) and installation was quick and easy.
So I'm getting an E-MU 0204 USB at a bargain of a price. Part of the deal was that I get a decent pair of headphones (getting AKGs K-240 MKII's) and that I find the drivers for the thing. Well, so far it's been a bit of a struggle. I've found no working drivers for Windows and the drivers within Windows are crap. Creative has the Mac drivers, and the old E-MU site is still up, but the driver download is broken.
The software that utilizes vJoy drivers, such as GameCube USB Adapter Driver, can treat the GameCube controllers as generic gamepads for Windows. They can be configured in Dolphin like any other controller. Unlike vJoy, Dolphin's native support will offer more straightforward and added missing supports from vJoy (i.e. force feedback), and offer better latency. vJoy and Dolphin's native support conflict with one another, so to use the native support in Dolphin, driver services must be stopped through GameCube USB Adapter Driver 's window. You probably already have ran Zadig setup if the GameCube USB Adapter Driver version is v3.0 or later. Skip to #Dolphin Setup below if you haven't encountered any problems with it.
Perhaps these issues has its source in beta drivers, however E-MU doesn't rush things too quickly. It's been a while since the realease of Windows 7, but there's still no proper Windows 7 driver available for download on their website. With the interface you get a beta driver on a CD. It appears that its behaviour depends on the USB controller chipset and I had some troubles with it for some time.
